“Breathing in, I calm body and mind. Breathing out, I smile.” - Thich Nhat Hanh
One of the easiest ways to Tame Your Mind is to breathe! Breathing deeply, with a slow and steady inhalation to exhalation, signals our parasympathetic nervous system to calm the body down. Long, deep breaths can also manage our stress responses to help decrease anxiety, fear, wild thoughts, and rapid heartbeat.
Masters of breath work are able to control their body and mind in ways that enable enhanced states of being, clarity, calmness, and thoughts. It's no wonder that Breath work has become increasingly more popular worldwide as people feel the benefits of incorporating daily breathing practices.
In ancient practices of yoga, breathing referred to in sanskrit as Pranayama, is in its essence one of the most important aspects of a traditional yoga practice. Prana means life, and yama means force or control. I believe that if we can Tame our breath, we can Tame any aspect of our life.
From a wellness perspective, breathing is one of the number one pillars of health. Without it we we perish within minutes, and with it our mind can become a vast vessel of awakening and higher levels of consciousness.
Learning to become aware of your breath and how it forces you back into the present moment is a practice that should be nurtured daily in order to truly Tame Your Health.
